The Honorable Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

President of the Republic of the Philippines

MalacaƱang Palace

J.P. Laurel Street

San Miguel, Manila 1005

Dear Mr. President,

I am writing this to show the frustration and concern that many of us feel about the current state of our country. The rising cost of living, lack of stable job opportunities, and slow progress in essential services such as healthcare and education have left many Filipinos struggling every day. Despite the promises of progress, it seems that many ordinary Filipinos are still finding it hard to make ends meet, and the gap between the rich and poor continues to widen. It is sad to see so many families having difficulties while others appear to benefit from a system that feels unfair.

As a citizen, I hope for more effective actions to support Filipinos who are struggling. We need stronger support for the poor, more job creation, improved infrastructure, better inflation control, reduced crime rates, and the elimination of corruption or corrupt officials, which continue to slow down our country's progress. I understand that leading a nation is not easy, and I appreciate your efforts to bring change. However, it seems that these efforts are not enough, and we hope for a stronger and more effective actions for the betterment of our country.

Sincerely,

Ayesha Kaye Allagadan

Lights Our Way To Success

Teachers are like the lights that guide us on our path to success. Their endless hard work, patience, and dedication shape not only our knowledge but also our character. Every day, they go beyond just teaching lessons in the classroom; they help mold our future, provide important lessons about life, inspire us to dream bigger, guide us to become more responsible, thoughtful, and capable individuals as we go on through our lives.

In this year's National Teachers Month Celebration, we honor and appreciate all the sacrifices teachers make to make sure that every student reaches their full potential. I’ve seen how teachers work tirelessly, often sacrificing their own time and energy, just to make sure that every student is guided on their journey to success. Whether they stay late to help us understand difficult lessons in their subject or offer words of encouragement and support when we feel discouraged, their impact to us, students, really goes far beyond the four walls in our classroom.

Teachers nurture our knowledge, wisdom, and values, which helps us grow into the best versions of ourselves. Their patience, kindness, and commitment really make a difference, not only in the lives of their students but also in the future of our nation. That is why we are thankful for the dedication and love they put in teaching, and we appreciate all the efforts they do just to make sure that no student is being left behind. So, as we celebrate this month, let us all be reminded to always show our appreciation to the teachers who light our way to success.

What makes up 'me'?

Everyone is given a life to live, and it's up to us to make the most of it. For me, that means embracing every moment and taking every opportunity to grow and learn. From a young age, my curiosity has always driven me to explore and understand the world around me. Whether it's trying out a new hobby, learning something new, or simply asking questions about how things work, that curiosity has shaped who I am. By setting goals aligned with my interests and applying what I've learned, I've been able to continuously improve myself. Embracing new experiences and staying open to gaining new knowledge has become a way of life for me.

As a child, I truly enjoyed playing with my cousins and neighborhood friends, appreciating every second we spent together. Moreover, my parents raised me to be courageous, hardworking, and respectful. They support me in everything I do and every decision I make, with their guidance, of course, which has greatly influenced who I am today. People close to me might describe me as shy and sometimes awkward, especially when meeting new people. However, as I grew up, met a lot of people, and encountered new experiences, I gradually learned how to communicate effectively and express myself more freely. Furthermore, prioritizing my happiness is important to me, so I engage in activities that bring me joy, such as eating my favorite foods, watching shows, listening to music, dancing to choreography I enjoy, playing games (whether indoors or outdoors), spending time with friends and family, and helping others as much as I can. Although making mistakes is part of life, I always ensure to learn from them. Lastly, I truly believe in myself, and with perseverance and hard work, I am confident that I can achieve any of my goals and aspirations, no matter how many challenges the world throws at me.

When it comes to my aspirations, my ultimate goal is to succeed. I want to give back to my parents and brother for all their love and sacrifices. Their support has been a crucial help in my life, and I’m determined to make them proud in every way possible. Once I reach my goals, I plan to pursue my dreams—one of which is to travel the world to learn about different cultures and their traditions. Another is to fulfill my ambition of becoming a medical technologist abroad. I’m also motivated to give back to my community. When I become successful, I want to share my blessings by supporting charitable causes and helping those in need because I know how it feels to have nothing. In conclusion, I am committed to living a meaningful life by embracing every opportunity and overcoming every challenge. And as I’ve promised myself, I will keep working hard until I turn all my dreams into reality.

Bayanihan

"It's more fun in the Philippines" they say. The country is known for its beautiful islands, vibrant culture, and warm smiles of its people. But behind these, the Philippines also faces challenges, especially when it comes to natural disasters. The country is one of the most disaster-prone nations in the world, regularly hit by typhoons, earthquakes, and floods. Its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire and within the typhoon belt puts it at risk. Adding to this, the climate change has worsened the situation, with the rising temperature and sea levels making storm and floods even more severe. Issues like poverty and the lack of strong infrastructure also made it worse. These factors make the country more vulnerable, so the need to build a more resilient Philippines is becoming even urgent for us all.

Over the years, the government, communities, and organizations have responded in different ways to address these challenges. Many of us have participated in disaster drills at school or in our neighborhood, and early warning systems have become more reliable. Efforts have also been made to construct stronger homes and buildings that can better withstand these natural forces. But despite these efforts, many Filipinos still struggle to recover, especially in areas where resources are limited.

Building a more resilient Philippines is not easy, and there are still many challenges ahead. It can be frustrating to see that some important projects are delayed due to a lack of funding or inefficiencies in government. Additionally, while some of us are well aware of the importance of disaster preparedness, others still need more education and support to understand what to do during emergencies.  Yet, trough it all, the spirit of "bayanihan" shines through as Filipinos come together to help oe another. To create a more resilient Philippines, we need to work together and remain committed to building a safer and stronger nation.
